In 2008, we reduced our spending due to the economy taking a negative turn in the fall of 2007. Then when Miss Juliana Tu took office in 2009 we reduced further and it was decided to give back to the membership, invest in our members. Juliana’s budget included 5 scholarships to CEA conference and 10 annual memberships. This coming year Miss Miriam Brown, our 2010 President, has decided to continue the cost cutting measures and also continue the CEA conference scholarships and annual membership reimbursements. So each month when you attend our dinner meetings, be sure to complete the entry slips for a chance to win a scholarship for 2010 CEA conference or a 2011 membership. The budget for 2010 was approved at our January Board meeting and we continue to be an award winning and fiscally strong region. The last few years we have seen many of our membership lose their jobs, change jobs and have more of the financial responsibility for membership coming from their pocketbooks rather than their company’s. Your Board of Directors has fought hard to keep costs down. In recent years we have reduced the price of the dinner meeting by going to a buffet. The monthly dinner meeting flyers are no longer sent by snail mail; by sending an eblast we have saved postage costs. The newsletter is also digital, expanding it contents, color and speed in which it is delivered. We also have included Skype access to our board meetings and have done more with reducing costs by taking many small measures adding up to an over 20% reduction in our yearly operating costs. I personally would like to thank you for your membership, your sponsorship and commitment to making our region one of the best in the state. Your 2010 Board of Directors, your CEA Directors and your Committees and their Chairpersons continue to keep our region strong in education, community involvement and general support for our industry. I know I speak for all of them when I humbly express my gratitude for your membership and your active participation in our region.
